The Threatt Filling Station: A Historically African American-owned property
The Threatt family is grateful to the National Trust for Historic Preservation for including the Threatt Filling Station and Threatt Family Farm on its list of the 11-Most Endangered Places in America. We hope this recognition assists in preserving and restoring the property. The farm and filling station can remind us all of a time that is too easily forgotten, but should be remembered as an example of perseverance under the hardest of times - a model for us today to work hard, help others, and believe in achievement against the odds.
The Threatt Filling Station
This video features Rev. Allen Threatt, III discussing the Threatt Filling Station, which was built in 1915. Owned and operated by his family, this service station is located along Route 66n near Luther, Ok., and served African American travelers and locals. This business is one that would typically be included in “The Traveler’ Green Book.”
